Shorts! wants to provide a platform giving international short film makers the opportunity to show their work to a broad audience. A short film is too often considered a short feature film. Shorts! considers it it’s task to show that short film is an art form in it’s own right, with it’s own identity and qualities.
Short film is a medium in which artists are enabled to express their ideas with a minimum of restrictions. The fact that there’s usually less money involved, combined with the possibilities created by technological innovations such as DV and desk-top editing, allows the filmmaker an unprecedented degree of freedom. This freedom makes it possible for the filmmaker to experiment, and present his or her ideas in their purest, most unadulterated form. As such, short film showcases the cutting edge of cinema.
The mission for Shorts! 2001 consists of selecting and presenting to a wide audience the latest fruits of this artistic movement. New technologies will be embraced by Shorts! 2001, as they have been by the filmmakers themselves. In addition to the celluloid projections, the audience will be presented with a wide selection of material on computer screens and digital projections.
